While the national nursing shortage hasn't hit Virginia as much as in other states, nurses are still in demand there. Industry projections forecast there will be a 28% increase in nursing jobs through 2012. To help meet the demand, Virginia offers aspiring nurses several incentives, including vouchers, low-interest loans, and scholarships.

Rich in colonial history and famous for its roles in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, Virginia is also the birthplace of eight US presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, and Woodrow Wilson.
