Columbia is South Carolina's capitol. As of the 2000 census, it has a population of 116,278. It is the county seat of Richland County, but a small portion of the city is located in Lexington County. In June of 2003 the United States Census Bureau added four more counties: Fairfield, Calhoun, Kershaw, and Saluda to Columbia's standard metropolitan statistical area. This should give the metro area a population of about 679,456. Fort Jackson is the largest United States Army Initial Entry (basic) training base and is located east of the city. A revitalization campaign has also brought the city a new convention center located near the arena, with a new hotel and restaurants. The growing area offers plenty of rural charm in combination with urban amenities, and the continued growth and correlated business and medical industry resurgence should make the area an excellent choice with ample possibilities in nursing.

The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and with the addition of its bachelor's degree programs, enrollment has climbed steadily and so have the number of institutions, firms and companies recruiting our graduates. Our small class sizes and attentive faculty provide a quality learning environment for students.
